About LC Irish
Meet Emma & Cathal
We’re Emma and Cathal, the teachers behind LC Irish.
Between us, we’re qualified primary and secondary school teachers with experience teaching Irish from Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert through to undergraduate and Primary Teaching preparation.
We created LC Irish to teach the language properly - helping students understand how Irish works, improve their accuracy and learn how to apply what they know.

Meet Emma

Secondary school teacher
BA in Irish · PME in Post-Primary Education (Irish & English)
Emma is a qualified secondary school teacher with a BA in Irish and a PME in Post-Primary Education, specialising in Irish and English. She has experience teaching Irish at Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert level, as well as preparing prospective primary teachers for their Irish requirements.
Emma has also been through the Hibernia Irish interview process herself. She now uses that experience to prepare other applicants and has delivered webinars and spoken at events for Hibernia College.

Meet Cathal
Primary school teacher
Qualified Primary Teacher · B.Ed. Psychology · H1 Leaving Cert Irish
Cathal is a qualified primary school teacher with a B.Ed. Psychology degree and has experience teaching Irish at Leaving Cert and undergraduate Primary Teaching level.
After achieving a H1 in Leaving Cert Irish, he went on to achieve A1 grades across all Irish examinations throughout his undergraduate Primary Teaching degree.
His teaching has a strong emphasis on grammar and accuracy - breaking down how the language works so students can understand and apply it for themselves rather than relying on material learned off by heart.
OUR APPROACH
Why we created LC Irish
Knowing what to learn is only part of it. You need to know how to use it.
There are plenty of Irish notes and sample answers available. We wanted LC Irish to offer something more.
Our teaching focuses on the grammar, vocabulary and structures behind the language, alongside the exam technique needed to use them effectively.
Whether a student is preparing for the Leaving Cert, a Primary Teaching interview or an undergraduate Irish exam, the aim is the same: understand what you’re doing, practise it properly and be able to apply it independently.
HOW WE TEACH
More than notes and sample answers.
UNDERSTAND THE IRISH
Grammar is explained clearly, so students understand the rules instead of memorising them blindly.
APPLY WHAT YOU KNOW
We teach students how to adapt their knowledge to the question actually being asked.
KNOW HOW TO ANSWER
Students learn what the examiner is looking for and how to structure a strong response.
GET FEEDBACK
Questions, corrections and feedback help students identify mistakes and improve their own work.
